Digital Dragon:
is an initiative which enabled diverse community groups to express themselves in a positive and powerful way. Children, teenagers and older people learned about their cultural identity and were inspired to ‘never give up’ on their struggles, dreams and community.

Part 1 – Anthems
We worked with year 6 pupils from 4 schools, enabling them to write their own song, learn, record and illustrate it for DVD. The art, music and drama workshops enabled pupils to:
  • reflect on the positive impact of their school life
  • realise they can help create solutions to problems in their community
  • explore their hopes and dreams
learn new skills in music, communications, language, art, and media technology, and experience a professional recording process.

Part 2 – Digital dialogue
We filmed senior citizens in the community telling their stories of times when they ‘never gave up’. These were shown to the youth group, and also appear on the website. This will:
  • allow some of the unsung ‘survivors’ of society to share how they found the will to persevere and achieve their goals
  • enable the wider community to hear their encouraging stories
Begin an intergenerational dialogue between younger and older people

Part 3 – Manga Mural
We engaged a youth group in a series of workshops to design and create a large outdoor mural, inspired by the stories of older people in their community, their wider cultural identity and their own individual ambitions and dreams. These will:
  • increase mutual respect and understanding between generations
  • enable teenagers to positively express their identity in a public space
  • teach them new skills in art, communication and collaborative work
leave an inspiring mural as a long-lasting legacy to the community.
